China Singles Day - 1111, Double Eleven

 

China Singles Day originated in 1990 when university students in Nanjing named November 11 as China Singles Day because they thought four ‘1’ comprising November 11 symbolize single people standing alone.

 

In addition to this, Chinese shopping malls and marketing companies started to offer discount and promote the day for single people to celebrate being single by buying themselves gifts.

 

This is how Double Eleven Day has been developed into a national shopping festival.
